Creating artwork centered on one of the most important days of a couple's lives is my life's work. It still humbles me every time I'm asked to be a part of their wedding day, and it is an honor that I approach with the utmost respect and discretion. I am always grateful to be able to witness two become one, and to be trusted to capture that moment.
Great photographers have the skills needed to capture the moment as it happens, without being noticed. Floating from one shadow to the next, only being seen when the flash fires, then in an instant being invisible again. The goal is to tell the story over and over again for years to come, and to make the images even more beautiful than the memories. The only way to capture such images, is to go unseen. This is how true moments in time are captured. Such is the mark of a artist - a storyteller without words.
After that perfect image is captured, then I can paint. I consider my work avant-garde, simply because society has so quickly embraced a digital existence, and a one-of-a-kind...anything...is rare.
Timeless elegance that captures the best attributes of humanity is the focus of my work - ballerinas that float, service men and women performing the nearly impossible, couples on their wedding day and their guests dressed to the nines on their best behavior - anybody who is able to show that we can be more. Images of humanity that inspire humanity is my art.
I can see why some would call my work traditional, however. I don't mind the distinction, and I enjoy the mixing of traditional and experimental. The world has gone digital, and it is refreshing to bring back the best elements of the traditional and merge them with modern concepts.
